Humans of UniHall | Max's Story

19 June 2017

One of my earliest memories of when I moved to Bunbury, WA (2 hours South of Perth) with my family from Nanaimo, BC, Canada (near Vancouver) is when I went to the beach for the first time.

Max's journey

We arrived in Australia in July 2011 which meant we had come from Summer in Canada (a warm summer where it was about 20-25 degrees Celsius), that also meant we arrived in Winter in Perth.

It was a warm, sunny day (probably about 20?C) so my brother and I decided to go to the beach. When we arrived there, I remember being so amazed by how clean, white and sandy the beaches were and I was really surprised that there was no one else there! We had a great time in the water body surfing, building sandcastles and tossing a ball around, all with no one else around. Now of course we realized that 20 degrees Celsius is pretty cold and probably wouldn’t come close to the beach in that temperature.

I have been living in Australia now for about 5 and a half years and last year I got my Australian Citizenship! It’s my goal to eventually become an Australian Doctor. I feel so lucky to have been able to live in Australia.
