Travelling the World Without a Passport

When Viknash first arrived at University Hall in 2015, he could never have imagined just how deeply UniHall would shape his university experience — and even his future career.

Over the years, he has worn many hats: student, Resident Advisor, committee leader, and now, a proud UniHall alumnus making a difference at UWA and beyond.

A Path Through UWA

Viknash began his studies with the UWA Foundation Program (2015–2016) before completing a Bachelor of Commerce (2018–2021) and later a Master of International Relations (2022–2024). He graduated from his master’s degree in December 2024 — a milestone that marked nearly a decade of connection to UWA and UniHall.

Life at UniHall

Viknash called UniHall home from July 2015 to June 2016, and again from July 2018 to December 2024. During that time, he served as a Resident Advisor (2019–2021), helping to build the supportive and welcoming culture that UniHall is known for.

But his contributions extended far beyond his RA role. Viknash was the inaugural chair of the Innovation Space Committee, overseeing its opening and launch as part of the Professional Development Steering Committee. He also co-chaired the Community Advocate Portfolio, where he led the planting of the iconic Blue Tree in front of University Hall — a symbol of mental health awareness and community care.

Life After UniHall

Today, Viknash continues his commitment to supporting students. He works at UWA as the Coordinator of International Student Support, and serves nationally as the Board Chair of the Council of Australian Postgraduate Associations Inc.

Favourite UniHall Memories

“The community and opportunities UniHall provides are amazing,” he reflects. “Everyone has such a spirit to support each other and be uplifting. And of course, I met my wife at UniHall — so it will always be a special place for me.”

Words of Wisdom for New Residents

Viknash encourages new residents to make the most of their time on campus:

“Take the time to get out of your comfort zone and explore new things. Sit with someone new in the dining hall and learn about their journey. UniHall is truly a place where you can travel the world without your passport.”
