From Nervous Hellos to New Friendships

Move-in Day is one of our favourite days of the year at University Hall. It's the day we get to welcome new students into our community, help them settle into their new home, and watch the beginning of friendships and experiences that will shape their university adventure.

For many students, moving away from home and starting somewhere new can feel both exciting and a little overwhelming. There are often nerves about the unknown, meeting new people, and finding where they belong. That's why our team is there every step of the way, reminding students that they're not alone. Everyone is arriving with similar hopes and uncertainties, all keen to make friends, find their place, and embrace the opportunities ahead.

At University Hall, we're proud to be the most diverse residential college at UWA. Our community is made up of students from different backgrounds, cultures, countries, and experiences. What makes University Hall so special is that everyone brings something unique, and it's those differences that help create such a welcoming and inclusive community. From the moment residents arrive, we want them to know that they already belong here.

While our February intake is our largest each year, the smaller mid-year intake created a warm and close-knit atmosphere where new faces quickly became part of the Hall family.

Students arrived from across Australia and around the world, bringing with them excitement, enthusiasm, and a diverse range of perspectives. The campus was buzzing with energy as new residents checked in, met one another for the first time, and connected with returning students who were eager to share the University Hall experience.

Adding to the excitement, our ResClub was on hand throughout the day, helping create a fun and friendly atmosphere from the moment students arrived. Their enthusiasm and welcoming spirit helped break the ice, spark conversations, and reassure new residents that they were joining a community where friendships come naturally.

The celebrations continued into the evening with our Sunday Night Dinner, featuring an Aussie Pub Grub theme. Residents enjoyed a delicious meal together while live music provided the perfect backdrop for laughter, conversation, and the start of many new friendships. It was a wonderful opportunity for new and returning residents to come together and experience the vibrant community spirit that makes University Hall feel like home.

Following dinner, ResClub officially launched O-Week with a series of interactive games and activities designed to help residents get to know one another. From friendly challenges to team-based activities, students were encouraged to step outside their comfort zones, make connections, and start building friendships that will last long beyond their time at university.

We are excited to welcome our newest residents to University Hall and can't wait to see the memories they create, the friendships they form, and the opportunities they embrace throughout the semester.

Welcome home, and welcome to the University Hall community.
