There were no delayed flights, no lost luggage and definitely no passport checks—but there were global flavours, live jazz and a Dining Hall buzzing with excitement as UniHall officially welcomed its newest residents at our Semester Two Commencement Dinner.
Inspired by the Academy Award-winning classic Around the World in 80 Days, this year's event also formed part of UniHall's 80th anniversary celebrations, inviting residents to embark on a journey of food, friendship and new beginnings.
The Sir George Currie Dining Hall came alive with internationally inspired cuisine, celebrating the many cultures that make up our vibrant community. As residents shared stories over dinner, Champagne Duo set the mood with a soundtrack of smooth jazz, creating the perfect atmosphere for new connections to flourish.
For many of our newest residents, Commencement Dinner was their first chance to experience one of UniHall's most cherished traditions. It's more than a welcome dinner—it's the moment strangers become neighbours, neighbours become friends, and a new chapter officially begins.
The Around the World in 80 Days theme was a fitting tribute to UniHall's 80-year history. For eight decades, students have travelled from across Australia and around the world to call UniHall home, bringing with them different cultures, perspectives and experiences that enrich our community every day.
As the conversations continued long after dessert was served, one thing was clear: while our residents may come from different corners of the globe, they're all now part of the same journey.
Welcome to Semester Two. We can't wait to see where the adventure takes you next.
