The great part of our diverse community are the residents who share their culture and traditions with University Hall (UniHall).

Two current Unihallers SyinJu and Ruolin came together to celebrate Chinese culture by hosting the Spring Lantern Festival. Traditionally this festival is held to celebrate the final day of Chinese New Year. The aim for the UniHall festival was to increase cultural awareness and foster greater community relationships among residents.

“It was a big success. Many UniHallers enjoyed the lantern making workshop, Chinese music performance and riddle guessing competition held that night,” says SyinJu, current UniHaller.

The traditional food served included Tangyuan and tea eggs which were also very popular, especially among the Chinese community who grew up eating them. Syinju said the event provided an avenue for both Chinese and non-Chinese participants to mingle over food, artwork and games and she was glad UniHallers found it fun and meaningful.
