Massive congratulations must be extended to Kyle Atkins on his recent achievement of a Bronze Medal in the World Under-23 Ultimate Championships.
Kyle is one of only four West Australian members on the team and travelled to Toronto, Canada for the event. Kyle had previously sprained his ankle only weeks before leaving for the championships, but recovered just in time to play in the pre-tour, which was held in San Francisco, United States of America.
Overall the team placed third out of 15 teams, just behind USA and Canada. They beat Germany in the Bronze Medal game by only one point, which was determined by a ‘Universe Point’ (sudden death or ‘golden goal’, if you will). Other teams in the competition included Columbia, Ireland, Italy and Austria, among many others. The highlight of the trip, according to Kyle, was “our team’s reaction to winning the bronze…we were seeded eighth in the competition but we grew so much in just a few days and outperformed expectations.” Kyle also caught up with Brendan MacKillop, a former UniHall exchange student, and had the very Canadian experience of Tim Hortons Donuts!
Kyle has been a Unihall resident for five years, and an RA for two. Way to make us proud Kyle!
