University Hall (UniHall) was proud to participate in this year’s Learning Links Program by hosting Xavier Hill Wilson, a student from Shenton College.
The Learning Links program is a partnership between Aspire UWA and Shenton College which allows students from the age of 14 to conduct work experience with The Univesity of Western Australia (UWA) or be mentored by professionals employed by the University.
Xavier arrived at UniHall on Monday 14th September ready to begin his five-day work placement. He had the opportunity to discover the business management, administration, marketing and residential life (ResLife) processes at the Hall.
“Xavier was a valuable and dynamic member of the ResLife and Marketing teams. He had the opportunity to turn his hand to conducting interviews, preparing an article for the next UniHaller (UniHall’s printed biannual publication), and filming and editing promotional videos,” says Dr Lee-Von Kim, Residential Life Coordinator.
He worked specifically on an exciting new project, A Day in the Life of a UniHaller. The aim of this project was to prepare an engaging video of a typical day of a student living at UniHall; UWA’s largest and most diverse residential college.
Together with Hannah Lye, UniHall Marketing Intern, Xavier undertook research on the UniHall community lifestyle, support services and events. He conducted interviews with current residents of the Hall which he then edited and transformed into a promotional video. This can be found on the University Hall YouTube Channel.
All staff and students at the Hall thoroughly enjoyed meeting and working with Xavier during his work placement. He will now be able to take away this experience for his future career aspirations.
